![]() ![]() Rather, this would take the observatory and greatly expand upon it and its surroundings, with miniature recreations of iconic galaxies such as Good Egg Galaxy and Gusty Garden Galaxy. To be clear, this wouldn’t simply be the hub world from Mario Galaxy. It’d also be a nice place to feature the dolphins that also made their debut in Mario World, and were more recently seen in MK8D. It’d also be a great opportunity to bring back characters that have been missing in action since Mario World - namely, Rex (the purple dino you can stomp to flatten), Dino Rhino and Mini Rhino (the green fire-breathing dinos), and of course Reznor (the four triceratops on rotating platforms - to be fair, they appeared in NSMB2). It’d be an appropriate place to feature the Koopalings. Now picture being able to run and jump around that world in Odyssey DLC or Odyssey 2! Picture the way that game brought Mario World’s art style to life in full 3D. In terms of how it’d look, think back to Donut Plains 3 and Battle Course 1 in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Cascade Kingdom is a prehistoric place realistic in its depiction, while Dinosaur Land is a more traditional Mario world full of living cartoon dinosaurs. ![]() You may be thinking, “We already have a dinosaur world, in the Cascade Kingdom!” But I think that Dinosaur Land from Super Mario World could easily distinguish itself.įirst, in the Cascade Kingdom there is only one living dinosaur that we see - the T-Rex - while the rest are fossils embedded in rock. This is one of my favorite worlds in videogames, so I’d love to revisit it in a game as well-designed as Odyssey! Isle Define would be an opportunity to bring back Bowser Jr. Clearly they don’t have any qualms doing this, seeing how Peach’s Castle (and its grounds) are often reworked from one title to the next. They could rearrange where everything is located and how everything connects. The plaza could be reworked so one side opens up to Ricco Harbor, with Bianca Hills up above, while the other side opens up to one of the beaches - Gelato or Serena, perhaps, with Pinna Park a short swim away. Inhabited by the Pianta and Noki - two races not represented in Odyssey - the island could feature Delfino Plaza, with its many shingled rooftops and tightropes and cobblestone alleyways and fountain-lined canals. It’s true that Odyssey already has a tropical ocean world, but I think Isle Delfino is better defined by its tourist town and other developments, which help differentiate it from the largely unspoiled wilderness of Bubblaine. So I’d like to suggest five kingdoms, inspired by past games: Even elements from spinoff series, such as Poochy from Yoshi’s Island/Story/Woolly World, appear here. Mario’s explorer outfit from Mario’s Picross for Game Boy), and canonizes them in a mainline Mario game. Odyssey also draws upon many obscure elements that appeared in spinoffs (i.e. the setting from the original arcade Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong ’94 is now New Donk City in the Metro Kingdom). Odyssey’s fan service is deeply satisfying in that it takes things that were abstract or loosely defined in previous games, and builds them out in richly detailed fashion (i.e. What kinds of places could Mario visit next that would be just as memorable as the ones already in Odyssey?įor me, more fan service would be appreciated. In particular, I’d like to talk about potential new kingdoms. Not that this game is starved for content - I’m currently sitting at 700+ moons, and I’ve enjoyed getting them all - but I’m pretty sure we’d all like to see what else Nintendo could do with Mario’s new capture mechanic and globetrotting sense of adventure. Whether it’s DLC or a full-blown Odyssey 2, I’m eager for more. What could be better than Super Mario Odyssey? Why, more Odyssey, of course! ![]()
